OVERVIEW
In my role as the Student Engagement Assistant at UNE, my primary responsibility evolved into advising the student Event Production Team. This student team is tasked with producing all Student Engagement programs for the institution. As the team’s advisor, I developed and implemented trainings, managed the staff schedule, monitored work-study funding, conducted staff meetings, and collaborated with campus partners. My objectives are multifaceted. Ensuring each program is a success from a student’s and the institution’s perspective is essential. This objective is complemented by my goal to support the student staff. I promote their development through active engagement and by sharing my passion for event production with them.
IMPORTANCE
My role with the Event Production Team served as a microcosm for the objectives of Student Affairs at my institution. Daily interactions with the team members discussing their employment position, academics, and other co-curricular experiences reflected active engagement with students. The students are able to develop a connection and sense-of-belonging with the institution. Furthermore, these interactions assist students in identifying a balance between their academic and co-curricular responsibilities.

IMPACT
The Event Production Team signifies where my foundational skills in higher education developed. This team is the first group of students that I supported as a primary advisor. From the weekly one-on-one advising meetings with the student lead to ten-hour events until 3am, the experience was a privilege. As a team, they established a precedent for years to come. The staff size expanded and campus collaborations grew as the number of events produced by the team exceeded 200 in one year. Through this process, the student staff developed their personal and professional skills while balancing academics with this co-curricular experience.
